In 1982, Usborne published two books called Computer Battlegames and Computer Spacegames, both by Daniel Isaaman and Jenny Tyler. They were aimed at kids learning to program, and contained a number of games that you could type into a variety of 8-bit micros that were popular at the time (including me on my VZ-200).

These books -- and others -- are available for free download from Usborne Publishing.

In May 2024, YouTuber Kari released Coding 80s Games in 2024, where she converted two of the games from Computer Battlegames to Python (including Battle at Traitor's Castle), and challenged viewers to do their own versions. This is mine.

Written in Godot 4.3, with terrible programmer art (with a Commodore 64 palette, for extra fun). Obviously, there's a few more bells and whistles than in the original game (or Kari's Python version), but the basic gameplay of "press the number corresponding to the enemy position" is still there.
